2017 Haiti's Children Inc. Annual Newsletter
Dear friends and prayer warriors,
It has been another incredibly blessed year for me in Haiti. I returned a month later than usual this year due to shoulder surgery. The first order of business, was the continued relief efforts after Hurricane Matthew took total rage on the southwest of Haiti: 806,000 people were facing critical food shortages; 90% of some areas were completely destroyed; 100% of farms were washed out; 1000 people died; over 1300 cases of cholera reported; today over 1 million people are in need of Humanitarian Aid. Haiti’s Children reached out:
HCI received a grant to help supply materials for 100 roofs
HCI was gifted not one, but two 40-foot containers of food from FMSC (that was a total of 544,320 meals)
Water and Rice was received from Convoy of Hope
Funds came in so we could purchase spaghetti, mackerel and other staple foods
HCI’s staff was able to deliver over 100 tons of food in each of the villages we work in and where you have a child sponsored
Churches from Illinois, Wisconsin, Washington, Minnesota (meaning all of you) stepped up and immediately sent tarps, food, and hygiene kits for us to get out to the people immediately.
This year Haiti’s Children, Inc worked with several teams:
The first team came in November, 2016 to help with Hurricane relief and mobile medical in the area hit the hardest by Hurricane Matthew, from Martha & Mary Lutheran Church
The next team received was a medical mission team from Old Dominion – working in the (Grande Anse) and the remote islands off of Pestel.
We were privileged to have Merry & Ed from Emmanuel come and help with the continued relief aide. Merry held a Community Health Worker Seminar with local nurses in Twamango, teaching basic health care and monitoring chronic conditions.
The team from Emmanuel came to finish building the church in Twamango, which included painting, tiling, installing electrical outlets and outhouses. The team also hosted a mobile medical clinic, as well as distributing over 100 trees to the community. Pastor Dave did a great job reaching out to the community in the evening with open air crusades and opportunities for the team to pray with the people.
There was a group of evangelists, J.P. Olson (WI), Cheri Anderson (FL) professional story tellers, Pr. Tim Coombs (NY) and Barb Turpyn (IL). The group reached out to 100’s of people at our nightly Crusades. Pr. Tim held a men’s conference during the day, while the ladies held our 5th annual Women’s Empowerment Conference. We spent some time singing and dancing with our friends at the Nursing Home – Dorcas Azile, and visited several schools to share the stories in the Bible in a different way.
We partnered with World Harvest to open a nutrition center in the Grande Anse area – we already have over 100 kids that come to the clinic to get medical attention and families to receive food. Our hope is to stop children from dying of hunger.
It’s been a very busy summer home in the states. Kay worked diligently with all the churches arranging my schedule. Did you know? I spoke at over 21 different services this summer; as well as, CMA chapter - Revelation Riders; and Recycled teenagers. God is good…All the time. We also have 41 more children sponsored. We raised over $4,000 for Seeds of Hope, as well as 1800 packets of seeds. This summer many of the churches were amazingly generous in collecting items for Haiti. The container has shipped and on its way to Haiti.
Due to all the devastation from Hurricane Irma, I had many delays getting back to Haiti. My heart goes out to all those in Texas and Florida. I know what you’re going through and pray you seek comfort and peace from our Lord. “You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.” (-Bob Marley). With the help of Agape Flights, we were able to get the remaining tarps we had on hand, to Puerto Rico after the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
My staff in Haiti has worked hard to get all the books for the children so they would have them the beginning of the 2017/2018 school year. We will continue with our school food programs, as well as the nutrition center.

We are always looking for teams to Haiti. Please consider getting a group together. At HCI we do what we can to accommodate the teams and the villages that we are working in; from Evangelism, construction (building churches, schools, outhouses, bread ovens), mobile medical clinics, teacher training, pastoral conferences, teen talks to VBS, prison ministry and home visits. Everything we do is about coming alongside our Haitian brothers and sisters and working together to grow God’s kingdom. Every team should come with some kind of teaching. We walk together
